-
I’m passionate about improving opportunities for all learners and writing for organizations that help to redefine education in our increasingly complex and interconnected world.
I believe that together we can help smooth the process of innovation in education, creating an educational ecosystem that supports teaching and learning for a brighter future.
One of my best experiences at University of Arizona was working with the Funds of Knowledge Project as part of the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology. The team conducted collaborative research with K-12 teachers on the topic of “Funds of Knowledge for the Classroom” among Hispanic and Native American families in the Tucson barrios. This groundbreaking research, which seeks to connect homes and classrooms, continues to be highly relevant today. Funds of Knowledge for Teaching has received over 2500 citations since 2017 and in 2023 is ranked by Research Gate with a research interest score in educational theory in the 99th percentile.

Funds of Knowledge for Teaching:
Using a Qualitative Approach to Connect Homes and Classrooms
“This is a very important book in its scope….[and] is very much needed….Longitudinal, field based research is still relatively uncommon, especially in teacher education, but it is the only way to document how culture is deeply embedded in children’s and families’ lives, and how teachers can use the knowledge held within communities to make a difference in reaching out to children and families who will soon constitute the new ‘mainstream’ in our schools.”
